FREE SAMPLE TRACK Ken Cowan on the 1931 Skinner Organ, Opus 820 in Rosary Cathedral,Toledo, Ohio. This organ is virtually as Mr. Skinner left it more than 70 years ago.
Transcription specialist Ken Cowan performs a mixed program of original organ works and organ adaptations of familiar pieces on the landmark 1931 E. M. Skinner organ at The Cathedral of the Holy Rosary in Toledo, Ohio. This instrument is virtually untouched and one of Mr. Skinner's most luscious organs. In addition to Mendelssohn's Sonata No. 1 in F Minor and Franck's Choral No. 1 in E Major, both beautifully played, Ken Cowan shows off the many orchestral sounds of the Skinner with transcriptions of Dvorak, Humperdink and von Weber. This recording was made one week following 9/11, and so the hymn America the Beautiful is performed at the conclusion of the CD in memory of the victims who perished on that tragic day.
