This is the first in a long series of live concert performances from The Washington National Cathedral, Washington, D. C. released on CD by JAV Recordings. Yale University graduate and Cathedral Organist Erik Wm. Suter offers breathtaking renderings of the complete solo organ works of Maurice Durufle. Suter is joined by Men of the Cathedral Choir for the Veni Creator, singing the plainchant in alternation with the organ variations on the tune itself that close Durufle’s Opus 4. In addition to notes on the Cathedral and the music, the booklet contains a detailed specification of the Cathedral organ. The recorded sound is clear and vibrant, capturing the detail of the music, audience applause, and the spacious acoustic of The Washington National Cathedral.
