Paul Jacobs, recently appointed Chairman of the Organ Department at The Juilliard School in New York City, has become famous in the United States in recent years for, among other achievements, his performances of the complete organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach, Cesar Franck and Olivier Messiaen. This disc features three noteworthy North American von Beckerath installations, at St. Paul's Cathedral, Pittsburgh; St. Michael's Church, Manhattan and Dwight Chapel at Yale University. Jacobs' precise, controlled and highly musical playing of some of J. S. Bach's most beloved organ works makes for a truly splendid CD. |
