With Peter Richard Conte at Washington National Cathedral, JAV Recordings brings you one of our most diverse releases. The third volume in a series of live concerts from Washington National Cathedral, this recording features master transcription player Peter Richard Conte, Grand Court Organist at the Lord & Taylor (Wanamaker) store in Philadelphia, where he plays daily recitals on the largest fully operational pipe organ in the world. For this program, recorded live on the 4th of July, we hear favorite American organ works such as Ives´ Variations on America and Sowerby´s Comes Autumn Time, along with known patriot songs like The Star-Spangled Banner and My Country `Tis of Thee for organ and audience together. And if that weren’t enough, Conte then plays a large improvisation based on themes from Movie melodies from films chosen by the audience. The playing is energetic, colorful and intelligent.
