Description
JAV 109 Great Organ Builders, Volume 6 Peter Stoltzfus
The first significant organ built after Harrisons first encounter with the organs in Germany, Opus 948 at St. Marks Episcopal Church in Philadelphia was built in 1937. Hallmarks of Harrisons mature style found here are the two choruses in the Great one based on full-sounding principals, the second on lighter diapasons - and the large Positiv division. Among the organs 104 ranks is Harrisons first Krummhorn stop, ideally suited for Alains "Variations on a Theme of Jannequin," which also showcases the instruments copious mutations. Sowerbys grandly lyrical Passacaglia (unpublished) and Bachs monumental C minor Passacaglia receive spirited performances by Stoltzfus, whose expressive sensibilities shine in Regers "Benedictus" and Viernes "Preambule."
